Beef Penang Curry

As I mentioned a week or so ago, I’m having a bit of a love affair with Beef shin at the moment. I can cook with it day in and day out and I’m never disappointed! After making stews, soups and pies with it, I wondered how it would be in a curry and last night, I decided to try just that. When my husband and I was in Malaysia in 2007, we stayed in the picturesque Cameron Highlands for the first 7 days where we were treated to the most incredible food and service I’ve ever come across in my life. Everyone in the resort knew our names and…

Peanut Chicken Curry

I’ll never forget the very first time I heard about Thai food. My mother and aunt were talking about a Thai restaurant they had gone to and my aunt said she doesn’t understand how they put peanut butter into their curries. The thought completely appalled me and I vowed to never eat Thai food in my life. Keep in mind, I was only about 12. Fast forward a few years, and I’m addicted. Everything about Thai food works for me. When I first ate Thai food the flavours of fish sauce, soy sauce, ginger and garlic were all a bit overwhelming but my palate soon adjusted and it is now…

Thai Fried Rice with Prawns

Last week while I lazily lied on the couch watching, you guessed it, cooking shows, the lovely Bill Granger was working his magic in the kitchen. He has this amazing ability to make me feel like I want to run away to Australia, buy a house on the beach, wear only white and light blue clothing and cook healthy and refreshing food all day. He just seems so insanely laid back and I imagine lunch at his house to feel like a mini-holiday. Everything seems so calm and soothing. So when Bill started his Thai Fried Rice I sat up a bit (ok, I just opened my eyes a bit…

Chicken Satay

First of all, I need to congratulate Simone Cameron for winning the Antony Worral Thompson GI DIET book yesterday. I know I made this one quite hard but Simone persevered and finally got the answers right. Here are the answers. 1. Brown Mushroom 2. Pineapple 3. Uncooked Crab During the last week I’ve been feeling less and less inspired to cook dinner at night. Almost like my mojo has been disappearing slowly. Which is quite a scary thing. I think it’s a combination of having so many things to plan (babyshower for a friend, twins’ second birthday party, our trip to Stilbay in December) , the fact that I am…

Thai Beef Salad

Now I know that Thai food has been around for a long time and almost everyone I know likes it. But still, I rarely venture into that direction of cooking and I’m not sure why. I think I’m always a bit worried that my dad isn’t going to like it. You see, my dad is very conventional with his tastes. I think he’s at his happiest when I serve him garlic-butter Spaghetti. So adding ginger, lemon grass and the like to a dish might give him the fright of his life. While I was grilling the steaks and making the dressing, I asked my younger brother to come have a…
