As promised, here is the first of my “bumper” posts with some of my favourite recipes. I didn’t even have to think twice about sharing all my favourite pasta recipes with you because it’s something I eat weakly and is definitely in my top 5 favourite foods list. These are all my absolute favourite pasta recipes and ones I cook quite often. All simple and delicious using ingredients you have in your fridge and pantry already. Linguini with Garlic & Mushrooms Fussili with Bacon & Chilli Pasta with roasted cherry tomatoes, ricotta & Pesto Cheesy Meatballs in tomato sauce Summery Spaghetti Bolognese

Roast pork in Spicy tomato sauce on Pasta

I am not often left with lots of left-overs after a Sunday roast but it does happen occasionally. The usual manner of dealing with left-over roast is to sandwich it between fresh white bread, a generous dollop of mustard and perhaps a slice of cheese or two. But when I can hide it from the men in the house for long enough, I like to do something a bit more interesting with it and use it in a meal on Monday. This idea could work with any roast meat you have left over but I think there are few things as delicious as moist roasted pork that has been shredded into…

Pasta with Roasted Cherry Tomatoes, Ricotta and Pesto

When I first started cooking meatless meals I thought constantly whether I would be able to do it once a week, I never though there was more than maybe 5 proper meal options. But it turned out that the more I cooked vegetarian food, the more ideas came to me. Most often, the ideas that come easiest are pasta dishes. It’s very easy to create a filling and delicious meal without meat when you have pasta as a base to work from. It can be incredibly simple or really complicated but it’s very hard to go wrong with pasta. In Nigella’s new book “Kitchen”, she has a recipe for Marmite…

Baked Fussili pasta with Ham and Cheese

I’m sure when you see I’ve posted yet ANOTHER pasta recipe you sigh and think, ” Really? Again?” But I just can’t help it. I think in this household, we’ve eaten pasta once a week for as long as I can remember. When we were little, my dad would call spaghetti “wurmpies” (little worms) and even though we only ever really ate it with bolognese sauce (remember, my mom wasn’t the most adventurous cook), pasta in and shape or form brings back intense memories for me. I think it’s mostly because I link pasta to my dad, and not only because he works with Italians and thinks he’s Italian half…

potato pasta- foodgawker (1 of 1)

I want to start this post by saying that I am beyond Exhausted. In the last 48 hours I have flown to Cape Town, met people who will now be life-long friends (other food bloggers), had dinner at the incredible Reuben’s at the One&Only Cape Town, slept for 6 hours, went to the Food and Wine Bloggers’ Indaba, spent the day laughing, drinking wine and learning, got on a plane at 22h00 last night, arrived in Johannesburg at 23h50 and slept for 7 hours until my twins pried my eyes open and said “halloooo mama, foodie time pleaseeeee” . I have to also add that the Indaba was such an…

Spaghetti with Lemon & Parmesan

Even though last night was “Valentine’s Night” and so many couples were off doing romantic things that I’m sure only really happen in the movies, I was so not in the mood to cook. I was feeling hot and bothered and just not in the mood for anything…never mind standing in front of my hot stove for more then 5 minutes. So I knew pasta would be the logical thing to cook, only, I was not going to be making a really deliciously fantastic slowly braised meat sauce, or even a fast Garlic & Mushroom sauce. I was contemplating on just serving it with some butter and salt (I’d seen…

Linguini with Garlic & Mushrooms

Sometimes, all I need is a bowl of comforting pasta. I don’t even care what sauce/flavourings I have on it. I just want perfectly cooked pasta. Even something as simple as garlic-butter would be perfect. But alas, my family expect more of me than just garlic-butter spaghetti. So I have to compromise and give them something slightly more substantial but I still need it to be easy-peasy and no-fuss. My family have come to expect a few Vegetarian meals from me a week. I don’t always do Meatless Monday but I do Meatless twice a week generally so I feel I make up for it. I have said it many…

Penne with Salmon & Prawns

Usually when I cook seafood pasta, the sauce is super creamy. That wouldn’t be a problem if I didn’t have to worry about my waist size…and the fact that 250ml (8.45 fluid ounces) cream contains about 90g (3.17 ounces) of fat. Eeeek!!! But my craving for a creamy, seafood pasta has been so strong the last couple of weeks that I knew I had to make it sometime this week. I knew I could make the sauce with low-fat evaporated milk or yoghurt but I just didn’t feel like that was going to be good enough. Until I remembered my new favourite, reduced fat cream. Now let me tell you,…

Bacon & Chilli Pasta

I was so not in the mood to cook dinner last night. All I wanted to do was watch Oprah (yes, I watch Oprah…stop judging!) and do nothing. But I got off my lazy bum and threw together, what I thought would be quite a boring and bland pasta. Well, it wasn’t! It was actually really, flipping good. Don’t you just love that? When you think your dinner is going to be boring and it turns out to be something quite fab? There’s not much to be said about this dish, other than it took me literally 22 minutes from doing nothing, to having it on the plate. I walked…
