Curried Lamb burgers on naan bread with cucumber raita

I’ve made no secret of the fact that I’m a complete burger addict. If you need proof, have a look at my beef burgers with bacon jam, Mozzarella-Stuffed burgers or my Lamb & Hummus burger. I decided to expand my burger repertoire by doing something a little different. As you’ll know if you’re a regular reader of my blog, I’m also quite partial to the flavours of India and so decided to combine my two loves into one insane burger. I decided to flavour the lamb with red onion, garlic and a good heaped spoonful of good quality curry paste. Try to use a paste usually used for Butter chicken…

Sticky Asian Lamb Riblets

The thing I love most about eating ribs (any ribs) is how your hands are left sticky and how you are forced to lick your fingers afterwards. My mom would be mortified that I’m advocating finger-licking but gosh, who could blame me? These riblets are incredibly easy to throw together and don’t require any marinating. They are great on the braai but I prefer making them in the oven and allowing them to cook under the grill for about 30-45 minutes until the fat has rendered out. It’s important to turn them often (as the marinade will burn easily) and continuously baste them so the marinade becomes sticky and gooey….

As I write this post, I can hear the waves crashing outside and the house is quiet as all the members of my family are still deeply in slumber. Everyone is utterly exhausted from the day spent on the beach yesterday. This is what Summer is all about for me. And when Summer is around, I want to eat fresh and tasty foods that don’t take hours to prepare. The more time spent on the beach or outside with my kids, the better. These crumbed lamb chops are a great example of that type of food, absolutely delicious and even though they take more time to do than say, a…

Spicy Lamb & Lentil Soup

With Winter’s icy arrival, there are few things that bring me absolute comfort. A steaming mug of NoMu’s Hot Chocolate on the couch watching Brothers & Sisters, a hug from my husband and a warm bath are pretty much it. Oh, and of course food! Stews, soups and curries warm me from the inside and makes me incredibly happy. So when I combine a curry and a soup, you better know I’m going to love it. And not only did I love this, my whole family did as well. My sister-in-law said that this was “de-freakin-licious” which is exactly what I wanted to hear. What makes this recipe even better…

If you know me, you know I’m someone who likes things to be done easy and quickly. I don’t know if it’s my terrible laziness or the fact that I constantly feel run off my feet, but if I can get in and out of the kitchen in 30 minutes or less, I’m happy. Because I’m a stay-at-home-mom, I have the luxury of starting dinner (or it’s components at least) during the day as I have time. I understand that most of you don’t have that luxury so I still try to keep my recipes easy and the time it takes to do them to a minimum. I always think…

Tomato braised lamb shanks

Now, it might not be ‘comfort food’ season in South Africa but it certainly is in the Northern Hemisphere. And quite honestly, yesterday I needed comfort food. It was one of THOSE days where I was irritated and the twins were acting up. I often wonder why kids have this ability to be at their most difficult and challenging when you are on edge and out of patience. But good news, we made it through the day and we were all in need of this comforting, rich and delicious meal. Of all the cuts of Lamb, the shank is my absolute favourite. I love how it goes soft and sticky…

Tamatie Bredie (Lamb & Tomato Stew)

Most South Africans have a memory of Tamatie Bredie (Tomato stew in Afrikaans), but I am not one those South Africans. I absolutely hated stew as a child so whenever it was made, I ate salad or bread instead. I also didn’t like rice so I couldn’t even enjoy the rich sauce. But as I grew older I realised what I had been missing. Stew in any shape or form is just so luscious and comforting that I now, can’t believe what a picky brat I must’ve been. I’ve been reading about Tamatie Bredie for years now and never thought about making it, I really don’t know why. And yesterday…

Once again, I’m aware that lamb is not the cheapest cut of meat therefore a lot of people don’t buy it. But it sure is nice when you find some lamb on special and you can make something seriously delicious but still budget-friendly with it. I find curries and stews to be the best money-saver dishes out there as the meat is usually the cheapest of all the cuts. You can also use relatively little meat and just bulk the dish up with vegetables, which adds nutrition and flavour. That’s what I’ve done with this curry. You could use less meat if you please but with this amount it’s quite…

I think Spaghetti Bolognese is a staple in every single household. Especially in households where both parents work full time. It’s easy, delicious and most children can’t say no to a big bowl of Spag Bol. But I have to say, I get bored quite easily of regular Beef mince so I like mixing it up and as I fell in love with Lamb Mince not so long ago, I knew it would jazz up this old favourite. The lamb adds a definite flavour to the finished sauce and I think the meat is more tender and moist, but it doesn’t make the Bolognese un-recognisable. Lamb Mince can be quite…

Spicy Lamb soup

I got the idea for this from a recent 3 Talk episode. Once again, the Indian flavours just spoke to me and since this week I had to make a chunky soup (after last week’s carrot & potato soup), I thought this would be perfect. Nothing will warm your tummy better than this soup, and with us only going into actual winter now, you’re going to need it. Just looking at this soup already warms you up. Doesn’t it just look like comfort in a bowl? This is also a GREAT recipe to use when you have leftover lamb from Sunday lunch. I would actually suggest you make sure there…
