Nigella's Mughlai Chicken

When I first saw Ms. Lawson cooking this recipe, I was smitten. I love a good curry and when I saw that this one was very similar to my all-time favourite, Korma, I knew I would be trying it soon. Fast forward a couple of years, and I completely forgot about this version, until a repeat of the program was on one rainy day and I was reminded of it. For once, I had all the ingredients in the house and decided to go ahead and make it immediately. I was also quite happy that I wouldn’t have to make two different curries like I always do, one spicy and…

Chicken Curry Soup

Today, it is Freezing in Pretoria. Absolutely toe-numbing, teeth chattering freezing. And the only thing I want to do is jump back under the covers with a bowl of this soup…even though it’s only 07:40am. When I told some friends that I was making Chicken Curry soup, the response was quite amusing. Some said it sounds good, some said it sounds strange and some just nodded and smiled. Trust me on this one, this is incredible. It really is just a basic chicken curry recipe that I added extra chicken stock and cream to. It’s that simple. And I decided to make Naan bread with it which is just as…

Peanut Chicken Curry

I’ll never forget the very first time I heard about Thai food. My mother and aunt were talking about a Thai restaurant they had gone to and my aunt said she doesn’t understand how they put peanut butter into their curries. The thought completely appalled me and I vowed to never eat Thai food in my life. Keep in mind, I was only about 12. Fast forward a few years, and I’m addicted. Everything about Thai food works for me. When I first ate Thai food the flavours of fish sauce, soy sauce, ginger and garlic were all a bit overwhelming but my palate soon adjusted and it is now…

I’ve said it many times before and I’ll say it again, I love India. I’ve never actually been there but my mind has been taken away on a Turmeric flavoured cloud many times in my life. I love the vibrant colours, the intense aroma’s and the beautiful Sari’s. I would easily walk around in a blinged-out Sari with jewels dripping off of me everyday. I wouldn’t say Indian cuisine is my absolute favourite but it’s definitely in my top 3. There is just nothing like walking into a kitchen where a pot of curry is on the stove. The smell is intoxicating and I am almost always reduced to a…

It seems like winter is finally on his way out of Gauteng. Even though I am incredibly excited to start making salads and REALLY excited to have sweet watermelon in the house, I got a bit panicky. You see, I don’t make stews and curries in summer. Well very, very rarely anyway.  I just can’t stand over a hot stove when it’s so hot outside that I could actually cook the curry on the pavement. So last night, I just knew I had to make some curry to bid winter a hearty farewell. I will miss him again in December when it’s too hot to breathe, but for now, I…
