Coffee pudding

How often does it happen that you’re planning a camping trip or a vacation to a self-catering apartment somewhere and you have to pack a million different containers for all the different food stuffs you need to take?  Sugar, milk, coffee…no more. With Cafe Enrista’s nifty and convenient sachets, all you need is boiling water. The coffee comes with sugar and creamer in a super convenient packet ready to tear open and add hot water to. What more do you want when you’re sitting around a bushveld fire or on a long road trip? All you need is a hot water flask. I was sent an enormous basket of goodies…

Nobu One&Only Cape Town - 7 (HR)-2

Nobu. Just the sound of it is intriguing. Telling people that you’re going to Nobu for dinner is usually met with jealous looks and a few under-the-breathe mutterings of hatred. So you can imagine my excitement when I was told we would be having dinner at the incredible Nobu. If you don’t know what Nobu is, let me fill you in. Nobu is the most successful fine-dining franchise in the world (in my opinion) and everyone who is anyone as eaten at Nobu. If you’ve ever watched the E! entertainment channel, you’ve probably heard Madonna, P Diddy or Justin Timberlake saying they’ve had a meal there. Madonna was even quoted…

Small chocolate peppermint crisp (1 of 1)

When I first got the invitation to spend a weekend at the One & Only Cape Town, I was both excited AND skeptical. I mean, amazing things like that always come with a catch, right? Luckily for me, not this time! The fabulous Ian and Lise Manley (of Manley Communications), invited me, along with a few other journalists from Johannesburg and Durban to come experience the wonder that is The One & Only Cape Town. Obviously, the invite alone got me excited, but when we found out that we would be joining a media lunch at Reuben’s to launch the new Winter menu, I started jumping up and down (not…

My husband and I were invited by the fabulous Abigail Donnelly (TASTE’s food editor) to join them on the Land Rover / TASTE experience this past Sunday and when I told my husband of the invitation, he immediately said “Yes, we’re going!” Of course, he just heard the Land Rover part, not being much of a foodie. But I was most intrigued by the idea of having lunch at the renowned Mount Grace in the beautiful Magaliesburg. Early Sunday morning, we dropped the twins off at my aunt and headed off to The Royal Elephant in Centurion where we were met with a beautiful breakfast and much-needed coffee. After the…

When I was invited to attend the official launch of Jeremy and Jacqui Mansfield’s new book “Zhoozsh! – Faking it” I was over-the-moon. This is the man who’s radio show pulled me through many a hung-over student morning where going to class was the last of my priorities, but all the laughs and music made it a little easier to drive to campus. And now this man and his adorable wife have written two cookbooks, the first being an International award winning cookbook and the second will surely follow in that direction. Upon arrival at the Sandton Sun’s gorgeous sky deck I was greeted with a glass of wine and…

In South Africa, markets have only really become popular in the last 3-5 years. But one that has been running and insanely popular over the last, well for as long as I can remember and then some, is the Pretoria Boeremark (Farmer’s Market in Afrikaans). And what makes this market so much more fabulous is that it’s right here in my city (Pretoria for those of you who were wondering). Just a little bit of background info… Pretoria is not exactly a “foodie”-destination in South Africa. Cape Town has that all covered and Johannesburg gets the runner-up prize. Johannesburg, even though in the same province as Pretoria, is still a…

This morning I got a parcel from a very kind man telling me that a  very disgruntled chef asked him to deliver it to me. The Chef  informed me, by letter, that he used to be the chef for Mr Delivery and they fired him because he is fat and lazy! I was outraged! He did say that he will not be taking it lying down and he will be taking them to the CCMA, he was even so kind to include the CCMA forms he had filled out, his passport to verify his South African Citizenship (very dodgy I might add, Tipp exed out name and all) and a…

Langfontein Guest Farm

As some of you might know, we are currently on Holiday in the beautiful Stilbaai. And throughout this month long holiday, I will most definitely be sharing some photo’s and stories of this side of our amazing country. Because we are travelling with twin toddlers, we knew we wouldn’t be able to do the almost 15 hour drive all in one shot so we decided to sleep over just more than half way in the picturesque Graaff Reinet (the photo of the beautiful little church was taken there). Now, while I was searching for places to stay, I was very aware that wherever we stayed, would need to be toddler…

I was recently invited to attend the SAB Food & Beer pairing event at the SAB World of Beer with Pete Goffe-Wood. Now you need to know 2 things, I have always been crazy about Pete Goffe-Wood AND I like beer more than wine. But not a lot more. You see, I don’t really drink. I find it hard to sit back and enjoy a few drinks when I know the next day I’ll have twin toddlers and a hangover to take care of. But I jumped at this opportunity because of Pete. Before I get to the actual food & beer pairing, I have to tell you about the…

When I first met Justin Bonello a few weeks ago at an Exclusive Books event, I was over-the-moon. Although we only got to chat for about 5 minutes before he was whisked away for a flight, I already felt like I knew him. He is as personable and genuine as he is on TV. Which is a nice change from all the ‘celebs’ who think they are the cat’s whiskers nowadays. So imagine my excitement when I found out I would not only be ‘interviewing’ Mr Bonello, but actually having lunch with him. Justin Bonello, all to myself for an hour! Of course I felt slightly nervous, I mean he’s…
