I am not usually the sappy type. And neither is my husband. We don’t do PDA’s (well no more than a sincere hug, thigh-squeeze or kiss). And I don’t like to get too schmaltzy on my blog or my social networks. I mean, we don’t even celebrate Valentine’s Day. But recently, I have fallen so deeply in love with the man that I met 10 years ago and wanted to dedicate this post to him.

You see, these past two months my C and I have worked together closer than we ever have before. Yes, sure, we’ve shared office space for the last 3 years and we’ve worked on the blog together to turn it into something wonderful, but from the beginning of this year we made a commitment to take Simply Delicious to new heights. The first being that we started a food stall at Pretoria’s very popular Hazel Food Market (selling goodies from my blog and book). Not only is he in the kitchen with me every Friday prepping the fresh baked goods and making the Bacon Jam, but he’s with me every Saturday. He sets up the gazebo and the tables, makes sure everything looks perfect and tells me to smile when I look irritated (It’s genetic. My brothers and I all look seriously pissed off when we aren’t smiling). He is, without-a-doubt the most incredible husband and father and I am insanely blessed to be able to call him mine.

Thank you for being the heart that loves me at my worst and the arms that hold me when I’m at my weakest.

{A quick note about the truffles. They are insanely delectable little morsels and taste incredibly sexy with their sweet, vanilla-y white chocolate flavour followed by a raspy, smoky cherry undertone. I wish I could say this was my idea but I first tasted a version of this at Hartford House when I had dinner with the fabulous chef, Jackie Cameron. Jackie gave me permission to try to recreate this and I have to say that I think I did quite well! Just fabulous as a Valentine’s gift for that special man in your life! Happy Valentine’s day!}
- 100ml (3.38 fluid ounces) cream
- 1 cherry cigar, crumbled
- 400g (14.11 ounces) good quality white chocolate
- 2 tablespoons salted butter
- icing sugar, for dusting
- Heat the cream and the broken up cigar in a small saucepan until just starting to bubble then remove and allow to infuse for a few minutes.
- Strain the cream and discard the cigar.
- Place the cream and the white chocolate in a double boiler and gently heat until all the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth.
- Add the butter and stir until the mixture is glossy and all the butter has been incorporated.
- Transfer to a clean bowl and place in the fridge to set (2-3 hours).
- When the mixture is firm, scoop out balls with a small melon baller or a teaspoon and place on a plate lined with baking paper.
- Place back in the fridge to allow to firm up.
- When ready to serve, dust with icing sugar.
- The truffles will keep in the fridge for up to 1 week.
